Have wool outside dying via solar power! Great use for the desert’s summer heat, and it keeps the house cool inside – no stove! I’m in the process of setting up an outdoor (under the patio cover) dying station. I’m on a crusade to take back the kitchen!!
Pictures are of wool dying as I type, and an example of “Gramma’s Rag Rug” yarn, the type of yarn in which I plan to use the wool. The yarn is self-striping, but has a random feel. I love using it for wrist warmers because it color coordinates with just about everything. Fairly certain I’ll ply it with natural BFL wool and Tussah silk blend (80% / 20% blend) to give it something of a tea dyed look.
